It will change your appearance and even deteriorate your health as you will not be able to chew healthy foods. It is important to know some of the available options to fix missing teeth to improve your lifestyle. Knowing the available options will also help you prepare in advance for the treatments. Here at our dental clinic, Cooley Smiles, we have a team of experts who will familiarize you with the various treatment options we provide for missing teeth. One of the best choices is often dental bridges.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are dental devices made up of more than one artificial tooth, and they are mostly created from porcelain or resin material. A bridge is usually connected to the crown to support and hold the teeth in place. They are sometimes referred to as fillers, partial dentures or false teeth, and your dentist can recommend implanting teeth on both sides of the missing gap to hold your dental bridge.

Dental bridges issued at a dentist's office usually have abutment teeth, also known as supporting or anchoring teeth. The supporting teeth can be your natural teeth, or implants can be placed to serve as supporting teeth. Dental bridges also have pontics. These teeth fill the gap in your mouth and are attached to the crowns.

How Do Dental Bridges Help?

Your teeth are important as they allow you to eat healthy foods and maintain a good oral hygiene routine. If you have missing teeth, it can create many problems for you. First, the nearby teeth will start to loosen and change their shape. Another thing is that maintaining your dental health will be difficult as cleaning will be a bit challenging. Dental bridges can help eliminate all of these problems by enhancing chewing and biting and also eliminate the stress on your other teeth and jaw. Lastly, it will improve your overall appearance.

Dental Bridge Procedure

When you come in for a dental bridge, you will need two to three appointments, depending on your dental health. In the first appointment, your dentist will prepare the abutment teeth by shaping your natural teeth to fit the crowns. We will do this by removing part of your tooth enamel in order to fix the crown. If there are no natural teeth to hold the bridge in place, you will need dental implants, which will be installed during the appointment.

After that, impressions will be taken to the laboratory so that you can have snugly fitting dental bridges. You will be given temporary ones to use as you wait for the permanent dental bridge. In your next appointment, you will receive the permanent dental bridge with instructions on how to take care of them. It will be carefully checked, and if there are any adjustments to be made, they will be corrected before you go home.
